There are things in life that make you slow down. Rather than be losing a loved one, heart break, marriage, or even old age.
It doesn’t mean you stop and quit.
You just decide to make life slow down.
Cancer made Robert Connely Farr slow down. “It’s like a ‘reset’ was hit in some fundamental areas of my life. Maybe that’s good or bad I don’t know, but it feels honest and positive, so I’m grateful,” he says.
Then, along came the music… “(Ode to Lonesome), is one of those that happened so quick- and with all that happened last year- this song comes from that part of me that- when life throws the curves- just wants the world to slow down a bit- I guess it’s about finding comfort in the darkness that inevitable at times,” Robert says.
I guess that’s what the holidays are for as well, it’s a time to slow down and spend time with others. Not to be busy, not to be in our own worlds, and definitely not time to waste… Being with family is never a waste.
So I guess that’s what Robert is writing about in his music, to just slow down. Rather it be to listen to his music, or a day. Enjoy it, enjoy the power of jazz.

Who is Robert Connely Farr?
“(Making music) was just always gonna happen,” he says. Robert Connely Farr’s obsession with music production begun when he was 10 when he made a rock and roll band with his brother and cousin.
Robert Connely Farr is a singer-songwriter who grew up in the southern town of Bolton, Mississippi. Farr’s delta blues music is all about soulful vocals and rhythmic.
Mentored in the Bentonia style of delta blues by Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, Robert has been putting out music since 2017. The Bolton native has also earned some very esteemed nominations like Maple Blues Awards for the songwriter of the year and new artist of the year.Currently based in Vancouver, BC he recorded his new album ‘Country Supper’ at Hipposonic Studios. Back home, Farr can be found at the oldest juke joint of Mississippi ‘The Blue Front Cafe’ owned by Jimmy, his mentor.
In 2019, the bluesman received a cancer diagnosis and emergency surgery, while his album became one of KEXP’s top albums of 2019.
(My fan base are made up of) such a variety of people – I guess that’s what I really dig about the blues is that so many people feel it. Our music spans a lot of genres too Country, (Southern) Rock, Americana I guess is what the kids call it. So I feel like it’s the real people that come out to see music like that, people that work hard and play hard.

Inspiration Behind Dirty South Blues
There’s a grit in Robert’s music. I love that, it brings out the age in him. Sounds like a man who really appreciates the old music from old time rock and roll musicians like Tom Petty, Lyndyrd Skynyrd, CCR, and so on. It’s a genre that’s growing old and rusty to others, but to me I still have a great appreciation for.
It’s not my favorite, but it definitely will never grow apart from me.
Cypress Tree Blues is my favorite and will be added to our Rock Unedited Spotify playlist, along with other songs on the album.
Of course, I am willing to hear more from Robert, but I would like to see his craft geared towards a more modern sound. Throw in some Nathaniel Radcliff inspiration, and maybe even some Strokes, Kings of Leon, or even Royal Blood inspirations too!
I just want him to continue to enjoy what he does, even if that means he doesn’t listen to my suggestions.
